Part One: Think like an auditor

Auditors of all varieties have practices and procedures that tax, bookkeeping, and payroll professionals can utilize to achieve better client outcomes, staff training, and peace of mind. In this class, we will audit concepts and practices such as engagement acceptance and continuance, sources of evidence, sampling theory and procedures, and more, as well as how these concepts can be applied in your practice.

Part Two: Taxability of Wages & Other Compensation

In this presentation, we will explore taxable and non-taxable wages, calculation of withholding taxes and an employer’s withholding at source obligations. We will also discuss non-employee compensation, backup withholding, and the purpose of Form W-9. Finally, we will talk about some examples from the world of our small restaurant clients and common mistakes that we have discovered including reporting of tips and miscalculations of withholding taxes, as well as where the income is shown on the tax return.

A studio portrait of Aaron ChambersI have spent my life working in and for small to midsize closely held businesses, both as an employee and as a consultant. I have a deep, personal understanding of the many challenges faced by these businesses and their management and ownership groups. My unique background allows me to provide competent solutions in many areas.
